Hailing from the diverse City of Angels, Letlive has no intentions
of getting lost in the shuffle. With their second full-length
release, Speak Like You Talk (At One Records), the band avoids
the oh-so-common sophomore jinx and rather brings a mature, thoughtfully
orchestrated, and very personal collection of songs that should
not be ignored. To be released Tuesday, October 25, 2005, Speak
Like You Talk touches heart, mind, and soul with its eclectic
blend of soulful, progressive hardcore.
Jason Butler finds balance and clarity in his messages throughout
with “City of Champions” leading the way. This song sets the stage
as it showcases everything that LetLive stands for and everything
the band has become since its conception in 1999; from the dynamic
vocal assault layered in social inequality to the aesthetically
engaging musicianship which shines throughout the record from
beginning to end. "If our instruments had limbs, they'd make love,"
says Butler, speaking about their music, "and when it gets heavier...like
breakdowns, that's when they go from love-making to fucking."
With
one release already under their belt (Exhaustion, Salt Water And
Everything In Between – 2004), LetLive set out to make an unmistakable
statement the second time around. It is safe to say that statement
has been made loud and clear as this release demands critical
listening. It confronts its audience with astounding musicianship
while evoking the most fragile emotions through wretched, yet
harmonious vocal arrangements. Speak Like You Talk is not just
another notch in the collection...it is a movement that should
be appreciated and not simply enjoyed.
